Export Certification

Certificate of Origin is an instrument which establishes evidence o­n origin of goods imported into any country. These certificates are essential for exporters to prove where their goods come from and therefore stake their claim to whatever benefits goods of Indian origin may be eligible for in the country of exports. 

In India, Certificate of Origin are Issued online through the Common Digital Platform by DGFT – www.coo.dgft.gov.in Authorised agencies o­n charging a fee as prescribed by them provides services relating to issue of Certificate of Origin, including details regarding rules of origin, list of items covered by an agreement, extent of tariff preference, verification and certification of eligibility.

There are two categories of Certificate of Origin –

1. Preferential Certificate of Origin

2. Non-Preferential Certificate of Origin

Certificate of Origin (COO)

The Free Sale and Commerce Certificates are issued for exporting Medical Devices/Equipment not covered under the Drugs & Cosmetics Act. According to the Foreign Trade Policy of India, the Regional Authority (RA) of DGFT issues a Free Sale and Commerce certificate to the exporter. Due to the prevailing lockdown for the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a delay in issuing free sales and commerce certificates.

As a trade facilitation measure, the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has notified the clarification regarding processing an application for unrestricted sale and commerce certificates. As per this trade notice, the exporter is advised to forward the applications to obtain the Free Sale and Commerce Certificate to the official email ID of the concerned Regional Authority (RA) of DGFT.

The Government of India launched the Star Export House Certificate / Status Holder Certificate as an export promotion scheme under foreign trade policy. The Certificate/Status is granted to the business leaders who have excelled in international trade and have successfully contributed to the country’s foreign trade.

The certification increases the credibility of exporters in the global market and they are considered reliable trade partners. Certificate holders are expected not only to perform well but also to provide guidance to new entrepreneurs. 

The exporter may become a Status Holder by applying for a Status Holder Certificate. If your application for the requested Status House is approved, you shall be issued a Status Holder Certificate.
